Jeremiah Chong started learning the violin at the tender age of 4, and attained a Diploma in Violin Performance awarded by ABRSM in 2006. Besides being active in the local arts scene, Jeremiahteaches violin both privately and in various music schools. Jeremiah is now a full time student at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) studying a course in Diploma in Music Performance, where he holds the position of Associate Concert Master.
Recognized for his musical talent, he was immediately appointed the Assistant Concert Master of the Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) String Orchestra for four years under the baton of Mr Chan Tze Law. In these four years the orchestra won numerous prestigious awards and achieved a consecutive straight record of Gold awards in the Singapore Youth Festival competitions. With his unparalleled skills in musical performance, and renowned among his peers and teachers for his varied capabilities, Jeremiah held the positions of Concert Master as well as that of Vice President of the Anglo Chinese Junior College String Ensemble. He is currently a First Violinist with the NUS Symphony Orchestra. He most recently performed in their chamber concert ‘Miniatures’ as Concert Master. Other orchestras in which Jeremiah has played in include the Australian International Summer Orchestra Institute (AISOI), Singapore National Youth Training Orchestra (SNYTO), Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO) where he was Section Leader, The Cologne New Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, The Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO) and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), where he currently holds the post of Associate Concert Master.
A member of the SNYO since age 12, Jeremiah has also represented Singapore in 2005 with the SNYO in the 34th International Youth and Music festival in Vienna, winning first prize in the Symphony Orchestra category. Other overseas experiences include winning 1st prize with Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) in an Australian competition in 2003 and performing with the AISOI in December last year in their annual music camp. Jeremiah’s most recent overseas experience was touring with the Cologne New Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra in Sydney where he was featured as a soloist, performing with them in the Sydney Town Hall.
Jeremiah as also performed in many recent operas including “Hansel and Gretel” with Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) Chamber Orchestra, “Amahl and the Night Visitors” with Anglo-Chinese Junior College String Ensemble, “Hey Figaro!”, “The Barber of Seville” with TPO, “Acis and Galathea” by Handel and “La Serva Padrona” by Pergolesi.
Jeremiah is currently under the tutelage of Mr Foo Say Ming, a First Violinist in the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO). He also has participated in various master classes by world-renown musicians such as Pierre Amoyal, Mayumi Seiler, Alexander Souptel, Maureen Smith and the Australian String Quartet.
